WASNJ | The annual Wycombe Abbey inspection team visited, engaging warmly with students
When the Deputy Head from Wycombe Abbey UK becomes the goalkeeper in a football match with primary pupils, you can imagine just how exciting that showdown must have been!
From 15–16 October 2025, WAS Nanjing warmly welcomed the first visit of the academic year from its UK sister school, Wycombe Abbey in the UK. The visiting delegation, including, Mr Nick Woods, Deputy Head (Strategy and Operations), and Ms Claire Leong, Director of Global Engagement, who spent two days on campus observing lessons and ECA sessions across the Junior and Senior Schools, engaging warmly with pupils and staff. They also held in-depth discussions with the school’s leadership team, parent representatives, UK scholarship students, and members of the Student Council.
Throughout their visit, the delegation recorded, reflected and shared feedback, ensuring WAS Nanjing continues close all-round alignment with Wycombe Abbey UK in areas such as teaching quality, boarding management, and teacher appraisal and development, while also celebrating the unique strengths of each school within the global Wycombe Abbey family.
“It’s not just the scale of the space, but the philosophy it embodies.” That was Claire’s first impression as she stepped into the Nanjing campus theatre, designed by the same team behind the Sydney Opera House. She was deeply impressed by its professional acoustics, adjustable stage, orchestra pit and precision rigging system:“With facilities like this, pupils can experience the power of art from a young age.”
As a Physics teacher by background, Nick found himself equally captivated by the school’s science laboratories. He snapped photos of the lab’s swing-arm power systems, fume extraction hoods and safety showers, remarking: “Frankly, this exceeds the facilities at most UK schools, it’s absolutely world-class.”As the autumn breeze sets in and anticipation fills the air, we are thrilled to announce a new academic initiative at Wycombe Abbey Nanjing — the launch of the Dove Scholarship for this academic year.
